The 1st Annual Walter Beaver Memorial Calf Roping kicked off Saturday, March 13 at the Brackenridge Main Event Center in Edna, Texas.  The roping, with events for 50-60 year olds, 60 and over, and open tie-down ropers, was a great success!

The first roping of the evening was the 50-60 Year Old Tie-Down with 28 ropers.  The first round was won by Dexter Arkadie with a time of 9.44.  The second round was won by Nathan Williams with a time of 8.66. The top ten ropers on two head came back to the short round and the round was won by Kyle Jumper with a time of 9.75.  When the times were totaled, Kyle Jumper won the roping and a beautiful Wild West Buckle with a time of 29.12 on three head.  Second and third place in the average were won by Dexter Arkadie with a time of 32.07 on three head and Rusty Smart with a time of 39.50 on three head. 

The 60 and Over Tie-Down Roping had 20 ropers.  The first round was won by Jim Armstrong with a time of 10.72.  The second round was won by David Diebel with a time of 11.22.  Ten ropers came back to the short round and the round was won by David Diebel with a time of 9.85.  David Diebel came out on top with a time of 35.66 on three head and a beautiful Wild West Buckle.  Other winners in the average were Bubba Kendrick with a First Annual Walter Beaver Memorial Calf Roping 50-60 and 60 and Over Winnerstime of 36.28 on three head and Rayford Glover with a time of 37.90 on three head. 

On Sunday afternoon the Open Roping with 23 ropers began with a bang!  Cimmaron Boardman won the first round with a time of 9.49.  As the rounds progressed, times got faster.  Justin Maass won the second round with a time of 7.86 and the third round was won by Houston Hutto with a time of 7.64.  The ten fastest times came back for the short round with Caleb Smidt winning with a time of 8.86.  In the end, it was Seth Childers who had the fastest time of 37.11 on four head, winning the Wild West Buckle.

We would like to thank the sponsors, ropers, volunteers, spectators, and the Brackenridge Main Event Center for all the donations, help, and services which allowed this to be a great roping.  We are already looking forward to next year!  Walter Beaver was a great husband, father, teacher and friend to many.  We know this made him smile!  With the success of this roping, the Walter Beaver Memorial Scholarship Fund will allow other deserving cowboys to pursue their dreams and make “Beaver” proud.
